We are always looking for new mentors to meet with our high school students on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and there are so many benefits for getting involved.
Here's what you can expect:
Weekly mentor sessions with high school students from October through April - help shape the future of the industry with just 2 hours each week
Networking opportunities with other AEC professionals across the industry
Give back to the community and support the next generation of the AEC industry
Enhance professional, leadership, and communication skills
But don't just take our word for it – hear directly from some of amazing mentors about why they are passionate about being ACE Mentors:
ACE Houston is made possible by our passionate team of volunteer mentors, who take time out of their busy schedules to share their experience and expertise with our aspiring young architects, contractors, and engineers. Each year, affiliates are asked to nominate just one mentor to be recognized as an Outstanding Mentor of the Year, a prestigious and competitive national award. ACE Houston has received this award four times in our 15 year history! We hope you'll consider joining the ranks of impactful mentors currently sharing their stories with our high school students here in Houston.

What is the time commitment for being a mentor?
Full-time mentors are expected to participate in a two-hour session once per week over the course of our mentor year, but we also accept part-time mentors. Whether you decide to attend weekly, bi-monthly, or once per month, consistent attendance is important for building the mentor to mentee relationship, so we recommend setting a schedule and communicating that with your students and co-mentors. We also have optional Saturday events, happy hours, and on occasion, your lead mentor may also ask you to prepare something for a session ahead of time.
What qualities make a good mentor?
Mentors are dedicated professionals who are passionate about what they do and want to share that with the next generation of the industry’s workforce. Being an effective mentor requires enthusiasm, commitment, and flexibility. Whether you have one day of experience in the A-E-C industry or decades of experience, you have something to offer our students.
